Hi guys,
The final results are in from the garage sale over the weekend, and I think we did a fantastic job.
Overall sales from the goods, sausages and cake table was a bit over $908.
Subtracting figures for float, signage, sausages and so on, we end up with net proceeds of $756
Huge thanks go out to the parents, leaders and Scouts who put in the hard yards to make this event happen, and make it a success!

As for this Thursday night, we had scheduled a visit to the Carter Observatory, but unfortunately they could not book us in until later in October. Nevertheless, we may be doing a little stargazing as Dougal has very generously offered to host a BBQ and campfire at his property out near Moonshine Hill Road. I will be providing a map (ultra-triple-checked; I've learned my lesson) as well as written directions from Dougal.
Please assemble at the den at 6:30pm, which should get us out to Dougal's by 7pm. Any parents who can take a few extra scouts out and back are welcome to join us

Great row tonight
Guys,
Can't believe our luck with the weather tonight - absolutely perfect for a row.
For not having picked up the oars for a few months, we put on a really good show.
Just a reminder, the rowers are facing backward and the cox may not be able to see over the bow adequately. So when we have a spotter up front, they have to be facing forward to call obstacles like boats, buoys, rocks and so on. There were a couple near collisions tonight because there wasn't enough communication between bow and helm.
Oh, and it seems the bung was left out of 219, but we'll just chalk that up to being out of practice...
In all, though, a great night and we'll let you know what's up for next week.

This Thursday night
Hi guys,
The forecast for this Thursday night is not looking too flash right now, but we haven't pulled the pin on the night row just yet. So officially, it's still on, but as someone once said, "Be Prepared."
Thus, please have a quick read of the Boating Gear List (http://ngatitoaseascouts.blogspot.com/p/boating-gear-list.html) and get prepared for a row.
Primarily, you'll need wetsuit, splash jacket, beanie, gloves, water/beach shoes. Showing up with just jeans or trackies mean you will sit on the beach after making the leaders a pot of tea.
Also, we have noted an increasing number of Scouts popping by the kitchen, grabbing a cup for a drink and subsequently dropping the cup in the sink to be washed by the dish fairies. From now forward, please bring your own water bottle with your name on it.
Cheers,
Randall

Deadlines, notices and requests
Hi guys, lots to cover tonight.
First, a reminder that the night row has been pushed back to next week, and we'll be building bridges this week.
Second, the deadline for showing an interest in the ski trip to Whakapapa will be Thursday 2 Sept. There are about ten or so spaces left. Consents will be distributed this week or next.
Third, there are a few timeslots left for the sausage sizzle planned for 11 Sept outside Mad Butcher. Please have a look at the roster (http://ngatitoaseascouts.blogspot.com/p/staffing-roster-for-sizzle-11-sept.html) and pick a time if you haven't already.
Also, we have a garage sale planned for 21 August at the den. We again need the roster (http://ngatitoaseascouts.blogspot.com/p/staffing-roster-for-garage-sale-21.html) filled out for for the Friday night sorting, pricing and arranging as well as staffing the tables and BBQ on Saturday. We need all types of everything: clothes, toys, books, music, tools, appliances, you name it. Items can be brought to the den tomorrow night or next Thursday 19 August.
I know this may seem like a lot of asking, but we are coming up to a busy time, and we absolutely need all hands on deck to help keep down our Jamboree costs.
Thanks,
Randall

Change of plan for this Thursday
Guys,
Due to a low-tide situation this Thursday night, we will postpone the night row until the following Thursday 19 August.
Instead, this week we will run a Scouts Engineering night with a bridge-building challenge.

This weekend's Kapiti Coastal Zone Campfire
Sorry for the late notice, but there is a Kapiti Coastal Zone Campfire planned for this weekend.
I've just been informed that the venue has changed - it was set for Tatum Park, but it is now at the Paraparaumu Memorial Hall, corner of Tutanekai Street and Aorangi Road (just off S.H.1)
The start time is still 6pm

Book your time for the sizzle
Hi all,
We have booked a sausage sizzle fundraiser for 11 September at the Mad Butcher in Porirua.
All the materials are provided for us, but we do need Leaders, parents and Scouts to offer up a little time to make this a success.
I have posted a roster to the left where you can sign up; first replies will get first choice of timeslots.
Cheers,
Randall
