Colonial Knob tramp preparation

Hi all,

To ensure we all have an excellent adventure up the hill and back down, we need to prepare for expected and unexpected situations.

First and foremost: clothing.
No matter what the forecast calls for, bring a rain jacket.  The Knob can be windy, misty, cool or all of the above all at once.
Layers are the key.  Wear at least two decent layers in addition to your rain jacket so that if it is nice and warm, you can pull one off until things cool down.
This is a tramp on some challenging terrain.  Anyone wearing jandals or crocs won't be leaving the carpark.  Your shoes need to have grippy soles, end of story.
Also, it's an excellent idea to bring a small pack for the second and third items below.

Second: food.
Bring some scroggin or muesli bars plus at least one water bottle.  I don't care what Bear Grylls does, our Scouts will not be licking dew off the grass or snacking on sheep stuck in a bog.  It goes without saying that we will not be leaving any trash on the track.

Third: light.
We are starting at 6pm to give ourselves plenty of time to get up and back before dark.  Nevertheless, please bring a decent torch.

Finally: the reward.
This is a good trek, no question, but the reward is a magnificent 360-degree view and camaraderie along the trail.

This is our last week before getting into pre-Jamboree prep and practice, so let's make it a memorable one!

Please meet at the Camp Elsdon (marker A on the map) trailhead by 6pm

Randall
