2020 Prize Giving

Well, prize giving was a hoot!  With two scouts and four venturers in attendance, they only just out numbered the five leaders who were there as well.

We did reasonably well overall, getting a large number of second places overall with a fair number of firsts thrown in.  One highlight of the night, was that Xavier, who actually won the Onepoto Rowing got to collect the Kurt Hansen Plate, the first time this trophy has been awarded.

One omission which was pointed out after the prize giving was that the results from the Worser Bay regatta were not included in these proceedings, but we all know what they were. (If you don't have a look at the write up here.)

Below is the collection of trophies and certificates.

Regatta Results

Aggregate Results (where we placed in total for the whole season)

Overall results (where we placed in each category over the whole season)

From the pictures above, the highlights for me are the fact that
  • we brought home five trophies, more than we have in the last two years (three in 2018 and none last year)
  • two of the trophies we won were for the Onepoto Regatta, our own.
  • our intermediates pulled off a win overall for the season in their sunburst racing
  • we were recognised as the biggest improvers last year
I personally am very pleased with the results and hopefully we will all celebrate our success.

Worser Bay this weekend

Here is a reminder about our final local regatta this weekend at Worser Bay.
Location: http://g.co/maps/uaxt4

It's a sunburst-only event and the conditions look to be excellent (fine, 17 degrees, 10kt southwesterly).  Last year was a bit of a smashup so this year will feel pretty cruisy in comparison.

There will be an early start, however: arrive by 8, briefing at 9.  The good news is that because of the end of daylight savings time, it will only feel like 9 and 10.  We'll need to be at the den by 7 to hook up and go.  People able to tow or offer a spare seat please advise me.

Thanks,
R

Oh, and I will be following up with people about Napier by Sunday night ;-)

Scouts: Napier

Guys

I have just found out (recalled) that Napier run competitions as Venturer and Scout. We have 11 venturers and 26 Scouts going so that means for sailing we need at least 5 cutters – lets not do any maths on Sunbursts, but we will have the kayaks there.

I have just talked to John Roger – we can borrow the Blue speed machine and Tarapunga from Paraparaumu, and it looks like we might be okay for tow bars.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, we need 30 paddles (6 per cutter) for the Centipede race. We have a few but does anyone have access to dragon boat or waka paddles that we could borrow for Easter?

Scouts: Wellington Schools sailing Champs

Guys
This year they have combined the Primary and Secondary Schools sailing regatta into one at Plimmerton Boating Club on Wednesday 24th of February.  This is usually a fun regatta, a day off school, and more importantly a day to represent your School. You gotta do it!!

The Scout Sunbursts are available to Scouts for use at the regatta but you will need to organize transport, etc yourselves. Unfortunately, I cannot be there as I will be in Court in Auckland.
First in, first served.

Cheers
Roger

Welcome back, Term 1, Summer 2010!

Welcome to all our Scouts and parents, returning and new!

The Ngati Toa Sea Scout Troop is back in session this Thursday night, 4 February 2010 down at the Den. The weather looks to be fine (what a nice change from January!) so we expect a full-on evening of fun.

Activities for Thursday night will be:
  • rowing
  • sunburst sailing
  • knot practice
You'll need to bring your water gear (including water footwear), sailing/rowing gloves, and towel.

It will be getting a little more crowded on the quarterdeck this term: joining us as Leaders will be Ross Pritchard, Randall Pavelich and Dougal Morrison. Ross is a longtime parent helper and supporter, Randall was invested at the end of term 4 last year, and Dougal is moving up from Cubs.

Watches will be organised Thursday night, and flag break is at 6:30 sharp.
