Napier Regatta cancelled

Hello all,

The weather has done in the Napier Regatta this year.  I just got the call from the host who says the conditions are simply atrocious.

So we shall have to give it another go next year.  In the meantime, enjoy your Easter weekend!

Worser Bay this weekend

Here is a reminder about our final local regatta this weekend at Worser Bay.

It's a sunburst-only event and the conditions look to be excellent (fine, 17 degrees, 10kt southwesterly).  Last year was a bit of a smashup so this year will feel pretty cruisy in comparison.

There will be an early start, however: arrive by 8, briefing at 9.  The good news is that because of the end of daylight savings time, it will only feel like 9 and 10.  We'll need to be at the den by 7 to hook up and go.  People able to tow or offer a spare seat please advise me.

What a great regatta!!! 

Up-front, huge thanks:

·         To all the parents, Leaders and supporters that helped organize, drive, tow, feed, coral, fix and cheer on the kids. Was fantastic support. I hope you all had as much fun as the kids and I did. Hope you all got a shoulder massage in the spa as well (kids did,  I didn’t). 

·         To Lynette, Janet, Kate and anyone else that helped with the catering – fantastic meals. And huge thanks to the Scouts who cooked breakfast both days. Taste-testing the bacon was a treat!!

·         To Diane – hope your foot is getting better.

·         To Janet and Joanne – thanks for looking after Diane. I had fun driving a grunty truck back. Suspect I got a few holiday snaps along the way.

·         To Ross for the firewood and the Navy for the Scout Coffee.

To you Scouts – wow, what a performance. Not just skills, but the comraderie, friendship, teamwork, support of each other, respect for all (most of the time) and what looked like to be smiles 100% of the time. Back to the skills;

·         1^st Venturer and 1^st Scout rowing, with the other NTSS crews looking fantastic even when sandwiched between wayward boats. The future looks great.

·         1^st Venturer and 1^st Scout cutter sailing, with our other crews pushing the top, older, crews.

·         2^nd Venturer and 2^nd Scout Sunburst, victories overshadowed by flagrant rule infringements and collisions by other competitors and a weird disqualification after a solid two wins.  Take home message #1 – know the rules, remember the other boats don’t know the rules, avoid trouble!!  Take home message #2 – remember how good you were, remember that our boats finished top four in most races. Be proud!

·         1^st Venturer and 1^st Scout kayaking, nothing more to say there.

·         2^nd Venturer and 1^st Scout ironman, Tarapunga defending their crown by two metres. Fantastic battle!!!

·         Seamanship, hmmm, with both teams perfect on land, with rowing skills and style, with patient transfer from boat to shore and patient first aid. BUT … what happened during recovery from the water … ?

·         1^st centipede race, with Janet the wettest supporter.

Again, be proud of yourself, of your fellow Scouts and of your supporters!!!

Next year – lets do it again. Iron faster in the iron-man (practice on shirts), no disqualifications in the sailing (hmmm), no dunk (venturers) and pickup on the first round (scouts) in the man-overboard.  Easy!!!

Scouts: URGENT!!!!!!!! Thursday night and Napier

Hi Guys

Please be at Scouts at 6:30pm on Thursday night. No need for uniforms or boating gear.

We will simply be packing up the boats for Napier, collecting the consent forms and $100, playing some games and departing early (hopefully 8pm). You all need to go home and pack as well as iron your scarves and pack your lunch.

Scouts: Napier

I have just found out (recalled) that Napier run competitions as Venturer and Scout. We have 11 venturers and 26 Scouts going so that means for sailing we need at least 5 cutters – lets not do any maths on Sunbursts, but we will have the kayaks there.

I have just talked to John Roger – we can borrow the Blue speed machine and Tarapunga from Paraparaumu, and it looks like we might be okay for tow bars.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, we need 30 paddles (6 per cutter) for the Centipede race. We have a few but does anyone have access to dragon boat or waka paddles that we could borrow for Easter?

Scouts: Napier Regatta - good and bad news. More transport needed

Great news is that we have exact numbers for at least two rowing crews in each section, although not sure if they run a single Scout section or both Junior and Intermediate. Will find out today. N case you missed it, we are staying at the regatta venue den – oh, so easy!!!

Further to the message below to Venturers, bad news is that we are still two car load of seats short to get everyone up and back from Napier. Issue arises because several families are staying over or travelling further for the school holidays.  So if a parent(s) wants a holiday in Napier OR if anyone has a spare car they can lend us OR if a venturer wants to take their car but needs a full license co-driver, we do have Adults/Leaders that could fill those roles.

Please let me know ASAP.

Just been informed by Roger Kerswill that Thursday night at the end of Scouts is the final deadline for registrations for the Napier regatta so please let me know beforehand or come to Scouts with your decision for attendance at Napier regatta.

More importantly, I need to know Thursday night (11 March) who wants to go to Lowry Bay for the regatta this Sunday, including parents who can offer towbars and seats.

Scouts: Urgent for Parents and Scouts: Decisions times for regattas

I am not going to mention the fantastic time we had this weekend. Diane I am sure will have congratulations for all involved (if she is still awake). I mowed the lawns when I got home.

More importantly, I need to know Thursday night (no later) who wants to go to Lowry Bay for the regatta this Sunday, including parents who can offer towbars and seats.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, Easter Regatta, Napier 2-4 (5) April. Is a full regatta like the local regattas but with swimming and ironman as well. First time last year and cleaned up nearly everything. Hoping for a big contingent again this year. Drive up Good Friday (10am departure) needing 7 towbars and lotsa seats. Come back Sunday evening or Monday for those that want to stay. Accom will be either at Westshore Den or Kennedy Park. Parents can stay with Scouts or at Motel. Need to know Thursday if want to come. Cost $100-$120.
